When you start to have a rattle in your Nissan Cabstar, Pathfinder or Navara D40 engine the timing chain should be fixed. It can be quite expensive but there is another issue with these D40 timing chains. Older D22 Navara 2.5Di turbo diesel engines fitted with double row (duplex timing chain). Although they seem to be durable Nissan didn't use the same timing drive in the newer D40 models.
Newer Nissan Navara D40 models are known to have problems with the vacuum pump simplex chain and sprocket. Navara D40 2.5DCi use simplex chain instead of duplex which is weaker to its predecessor.
After some time the vacuum pump single sprocket gets worn which results the slip of the single row chain.
This failure may result other problems in your timing. There are plenty of duplex timing chain modification kit are available online when you search for D40 timing chain conversion. These modifications are different than what we offer.
Unfortunately swapping only the sprockets are not possible due to the difference of the D22 and D40 shafts. So far if you wanted to do this conversion you needed to change the shaft along with the sprocket.
All D40 duplex chain modification kit you find online offer you the vacuum pump shaft and the double row sprocket. In order to change the shaft your mechanic will need to remove and take your vacuum pump apart. This cost additional cost and labor.
If you want to remove vacuum pump first you will need to remove the whole engine +
1. Disassemble the pump.
2. Remove the vacuum pump bearing.
3. Fit the other D22 shaft into your D40 vacuum pump.
4. Put the pump together etc...
