Balance Shaft Delete Freewheel Sprocket – 2.0 TFSI EA113
This precision-engineered freewheel sprocket is designed to disengage the balance shafts on 2.0 TFSI EA113 engines, replacing the failure-prone OEM two-piece sprocket (part number: 06F105243C). It offers a permanent solution to one of the most common and catastrophic failure points in the oil pump drive system of this engine family.
Technical Advantages:
-
Elimination of a Critical Failure Point:
The original sprocket design is susceptible to failure, which leads to a loss of oil pump drive—resulting in severe engine damage. By removing the balance shaft function, this upgrade prevents future failure of the sprocket and associated components. -
Reduced Rotational Mass:
Removing the balance shaft assembly reduces approximately 2.5 kg of rotating mass. This allows the engine to rev more freely and respond quicker, improving drivability and delivering a modest increase in horsepower. -
Improved Reliability & Oil Pressure:
With the balance shafts disengaged, there is no risk of them seizing and damaging the timing components. Additionally, if the shafts are fully removed and oil galleries plugged, the engine benefits from improved oil pressure and better lubrication for vital components. -
Reversible Installation:
This modification is fully reversible and does not require cutting or permanent alteration to the oil pump module. It can be installed with the pump in place.
Material & Build Superiority:
-
Manufactured from GCr15 Steel (52100 Bearing Steel):
Unlike many alternatives using EN24, this sprocket is produced from GCr15—a high-carbon chromium bearing steel known for its excellent hardness, wear resistance, and fatigue strength. GCr15 is the same material used in the production of bearing balls and races, making it vastly superior in precision engineering contexts where longevity and high-load resistance are critical. -
Heat-Treated Tooth Profile:
The sprocket teeth are selectively heat-treated, significantly improving surface hardness and wear resistance. This provides added durability where the chain contacts the teeth—something overlooked by most competitors. Heat treatment reduces the likelihood of premature tooth wear or failure under high-stress operation, especially in high-revving or performance builds. -
High-Grade Bearing Included:
The unit incorporates a premium radial deep-groove ball bearing with C3 clearance, selected specifically for high-speed, high-temperature environments. This bearing is rated to over three times the operational RPM of the balance shaft system, ensuring consistent and reliable freewheeling performance. -
Secure Assembly:
The bearing is retained using dual circlips and a grade 12.9 high-tensile bolt for superior mechanical integrity under load and vibration.
Compatibilty:
This sprocket is suitable for oil pumps equipped with balance shafts that are either removed or deactivated internally. It fits a wide range of VAG vehicles equipped with the 2.0 TFSI EA113 engine.
It fits the following:
