Newer Navara D40 models are fitted with single timing chain drive. Although these timing chains should last the life of the truck or at least 100K miles but the weak single chain design snaps at about 40-60K miles. This is a common fault and replacement timing chain kit needed. Unfortunately D40 Navara single timing chain drive will wear off the twin cam chain gear then the chain goes off each cam. If you have the single timing chain on your Navara D40 then you should listen to the rattling noise that the engine gives at start up. If the timing chain is not rattling then it is not stretched and doesn't have to be changed. When a timing chain is rattling then it is stretched and no longer under tension. Should be replaced. The chain tensioner try to keep the chain tensioned but it also should be changed at about 40K miles. Our Navara D22 timing chain replacement has duplex chain drive. Although it is older but it is more reliable than the newer D40 models.
When you need to change your timing chain?
* After 100K miles (advised by Nissan)
* If you noticed rattling noise on start up
* If your D40/R51 engine cuts out after some time. In this case you will most likely have a stretched chain.
How to make sure that you have a stretched chain?
1. Unplug your camshaft sensor (NOT the crankshaft sensor and DON NOT remove the camshaft sensor! Just unplug it, disconnect it.)
2. Try to run your engine, use it without camshaft sensor being connected
3. If the problem persist try to investigate further. (Change SCV valve, crankshaft sensor, ECU etc.)
4. If the engine cut out seems to be resolved after disconnecting your camshaft sensor then you have a stretched timing chain and it is due to be changed.
Also is the engine gets scratchy on startup or it becomes hard to start and would stop dead under 1000rpm then most likely you have a stretched timing chain.
We have few options available in our store above the "ADD TO CART" button.
D40 2006-2010 (Euro 3-4)
Navara D40 and Pathfinder with YD25DDTi engine up to 2010. Euro 3 and Euro 4 engine.
If you select this option then you will get an additional duplex conversion sprocket which fits your original D40 vacuum pump. IT DOES NOT REQUIRE YOU TO MODIFY YOUR ORIGINAL VACUUM PUMP! Our German made sprocket will fit the original shaft so it is very easy to fit. (The duplex chain upgrade sprocket is INCLUDED this option!)
In this option your newer (2006-2010) stock simplex timing chain will be converted to a durable duplex chain system.
In this option we include a timing cover gasket and two essential O-ring seals.
Quality: German aftermarket quality (see below pics).

D40 2010-2012 (Euro 5) Engine: YD25DDTI and YD25KAI3
If you select this option you will get all parts included above in (D40 2006-2010) option + additional parts to be able to fit the duplex upgrade to your Euro 5 engine.
(Please note that timing cover gasket is NOT included with this option!)
If you select this option you will get a similar kit to above but few parts will be different. Please note that timing kit produced between 2010-2012 IS NOT THE SAME as 2012-2016!
Although Nissan changed the supplier for their timing chains from 2012 they still stretch/snap and fail. Nissan still use a weaker single row (simplex) timing chain. It is still recommended to convert your simplex chain to duplex.
This modification will pay off.
(Timing cover gasket is NOT included with this option!)
Water pump
It is recommended to change water pump when you do a timing chain change.

. Don't expect others since they (including moderators) run the forum.
You may also want to ask why is that no other qualified mechanics are never recommended on the forum? It looks like United Kingdom have only 2 recommended mechanics.
and
. Odd isn't it? Moderators are all extremely helpful when they need to recommend the forum sponsors' names.
You may find comments on these forums where they try to explain that stripping down the vacuum pump and swap the sprocket and shaft (extra 1-2 hours labor) is actually better than using a newly developed duplex sprocket which requires NO extra job. This makes sense only to those who actually try to sell their parts & services and of course to the forum sponsor moderators.
These forum moderators try to generate sales for the forum sponsors with their comments and let you pay for the extra labor to your mechanic. Think twice before you give credit to those comments.
