Oil Pump Drive
The oil pump drive is included with this kit. It consists of the crankshaft sprocket for the oil pump drive, the oil pump drive chain and the oil pump sprocket.
Earlier Ingenium 2.0D engines were fitted with an oil pump chain tensioner and guide. Jaguar later changed the design and phased out the tensioner and guide. The newer oil pumps use a guideless chain arrangement.
For this reason, replacing only the timing chains is not always enough. The complete oil pump drive should be replaced when converting to the later oil pump design or when excessive slack is found in the existing chain.
Why These Engines Need Timing Chain Replacement
The Jaguar and Land Rover 2.0D Ingenium engine has developed a reputation for premature timing-chain wear. Owners and repair specialists commonly report chain rattle during cold starts, stretched chains, worn guides and weakened tensioners.
In some cases, the chain has jumped timing or failed before 60,000 miles. Other reported failures have occurred at around 70,000 to 80,000 miles, although service history and oil-change intervals make a significant difference.
Long service intervals and diesel fuel entering the engine oil during DPF regeneration can reduce the oil’s ability to protect the chain and tensioner system. Once the chain becomes loose, it can affect valve timing and may lead to severe engine damage if the problem is ignored.
A rattling noise on cold start, timing-related fault codes or difficulty starting should be investigated without delay. Replacing the complete timing-chain system and oil pump drive helps remove worn components and restores the correct chain tension.
Important Information
Please check the engine code and compare the parts with your existing engine before ordering. The timing-chain arrangement changed during production, particularly around the oil pump drive and the use of the chain tensioner and guide.
This kit is for the 2.0D Ingenium diesel engine. It is not suitable for the 2.0 petrol Ingenium engine or unrelated Jaguar and Land Rover diesel engines.
