It is essential that this kit is fitted by a qualified vehicle mechanic who knows how to prime the hydraulic lifters (these should never just be filled with oil and dropped straight in). If you do not know how to correctly prime hydraulic lifters you should not be installing this kit. The parts we supply in this kit are top quality and you will never get a faulty kit. If a kit fails it is due to incorrect installation of the kit or another underlying problem with your vehicle. We do not accept returns for kits that have been incorrectly installed. This is a professional kit must be installed by a professional person.
This is a new and not a “regrind” from a used OEM or soft, cast iron cam! These are new induction hardened camshafts hardened to a depth of several times that found in the OEM cams for unrivaled wear resistance. Optimized cam lobe geometry reduces valve train stresses associated with the OEM cam lobe profiles which lead to premature wear in the Pumpe Duse (PD) engines.
We offer 2 different camshafts in this listing. Below you need to find your engine code and select the camshaft option accordingly.

Options explained:
Within our online store we offer two brands of camshaft.
Nitrided bundle option is German made provided by HEwerk from Germany. (Hardened steel camshaft. Our picture below shows the Nitrided option). The steel forged camshafts have gone through nitriding process which adds an extra layer of durability. If you dont see this option then it is likely that we are temporarily out of stock. Please keep in mind that no matter how good quality cam you purchase if your injector hubs and their seals leak the diesel to the engine oil. Read the bottom of the page. Nitriding is a hardening process which hardens the outer layer of the material. In this process the color of the camshaft changes to dark grey / black.
British is made by ESTAS and provided by GT Automotive UK. See pic below:
101R refers to 038109101R camshaft part number. Material: CHILLED CAST
101AH refers to 038109101AH camshaft part number. Material: FORGED BILLET STEEL
These two camshafts are NOT interchangeable. They both have different profiles so If your old camshaft is 038109101R then you must select 101R option above the ADD TO CART button.
We explain above which engines have 101R or 101AH camshafts. You need to find your engine code above from the list and select accordingly.
Vacuum pump gasket option is pretty straight forward. This fuel vacuum pump gasket should be changed the same time as the camshaft. If you don't change the gasket you may have other fuel supply related problems due to gasket leak.
We advise everyone to change their 1.9 TDI vacuum pump gasket with the camshaft. These tandem pump gaskets are made by AJUSA
Camshaft cover gasket option is also something that you need to change. These rocker cover / valve cover gaskets start to leak from a certain age and you may see oil leak around your cam cover. Usually these gaskets are not easy to remove without damaging them. The valve cover gaskets are made by ELRING
If you are unsure of your engine code then: Open you bonnet and your engine code can be found it on a sticker on the cam belt cover or open your trunk, lift the boot floor and you will find a white square label around the spare tyre. On this small label your engine code will be listed. Make sure you check it before you purchase!
Some Volkswagen Caddy, Passat and Touareg have been fitted with 1.9 TDI BLS or BMM engine. If you have one of this engine code you need select the 101AH camshaft and tick "I have BLS & BMM engine." option.
BLS and BMM engines have been fitted with different rocker covers and they require different valve cover gasket. If you have an Audi A3 or A4 with the same BLS or BMM engine code you will also need to tick this box.
Common problems:
Unfortunately everyone thinks that fitting a 1.9 TDI camshaft roadside without any previous experience is perfectly fine. It is just a 2 hours job isn't it? Anyone can do it without qualification with a handful of tools. It is very common that owners think they can save a couple of quid by changing it at home. It cannot be further from the truth. We are often contacted prior purchase for the quality of our camshafts as the competitor's camshaft wore out in 10K miles. Most of the time it is not just of the quality of a cam but also if you are qualified to carry out this swap.
1.9 & 2.5 PD TDI pumpe duse, camshaft lobe and lifter wear...
PD injector wear:
It is very common that customers purchase a 1.9 TDI camshaft kit but they don't include the PD injector seal set. Yes it is important to change but this is not all. You will need to examine your PD injector for wear. Below we show a PD injector. One side if the injector seems ok whereas the other side shows excessive wear. Rocker shaft operates the PD injectors. After thousands of miles the injectors show some play in the cylinder head. Changing the injector seals is essential but they will provide only a temporary solution. If you see that there is wear on the injector you must change it.
PD injector hole wear on the cylinder head:
Worn injectors will wear their bore inside the cylinder head. Place your injector inside its place and try to move it. If you feel slight wobble then the PD injector bore is also deformed and worn. It will require a machine shop to fix the head. Below we show a worn injector hole and another where a brass bushing has been fitted by the machine shop.
If you ignore the problems above the fuel will enter the top of the head mixing with the engine oil. Engine oil viscosity will change and there will be not enough lubrication for the camshafts and related parts. No matter how good quality camshaft (chilled cast or forged/billet steel) you purchase it will wear out fairly quickly. This is why PD injectors and head have to be thoroughly checked when you change your 1.9 TDI camshaft.
Wear on FAI camshafts caused by PD injector sealing problems:
(We don't sell FAI camshafts)
It doesn't mean that the camshaft was bad quality but customer did not pay attention to pumpe duse injectors when fitting the new camshaft.
Also wear on hardened black INA lifters:
All these issues mentioned above come down to improper installation.
