Nissan Navara D40 & Pathfinder R51 YD25 Duplex Timing Chain Kit
We supply brand new duplex timing chain conversion kits for selected Nissan Navara D40 and Pathfinder R51 2.5 YD25 diesel engines. The kits include a double-row chain and matching conversion gears. Choose the correct engine version from the options above the Add to Cart button.
The 2006-2010 option includes our German-made duplex conversion sprocket for the original D40 vacuum-pump shaft. The later Euro 5 kits use additional version-specific parts. Timing cover gasket inclusion also differs between the options.
UK customers should choose UK stock. EU customers should choose EU stock where available. This can help avoid unnecessary cross-border charges. Check the stock location and delivery terms before ordering.
Ordering when you are unsure of the kit version
We dont check VIN numbers or UK registration numbers before purchase. If you need us to confirm the version please follow these steps:
- Place your order using the D40 2006-2010 option.
- Add your 17-digit VIN to the order comment field at checkout.
- After payment we check compatibility and make sure the correct chain kit is supplied.

The year ranges identify the menu options. They arent a substitute for checking the engine version. This matters particularly around the 2010 and 2012 changeovers.
D40 2006-2010 Euro 3 and Euro 4 kit
This option covers the listed Navara D40 and Pathfinder R51 YD25DDTi applications up to 2010. It converts the original single-row lower drive to a duplex chain with matching gears.
- Duplex timing chain and matching gears
- German-made duplex conversion sprocket for the original D40 vacuum-pump shaft
- Timing cover gasket
- Two essential O-ring seals
The conversion sprocket is included. You dont need to buy it seperately or strip and modify the original vacuum pump to fit it. Some other conversions require a replacement pump shaft so compare the fitting requirements as well as the parts supplied.
Check the option photos for the full component layout of your selected kit.

D40 Euro 5 kits
The 2010-2012 option includes the conversion parts from the earlier kit plus the additional parts required for the listed Euro 5 engine. The 2012-2016 option uses a similar conversion but some components differ.
The 2010-2012 and 2012-2016 kits arent interchangeable. Neither option includes the timing cover gasket. Select the correct version and check the photos for the parts supplied.
Optional water pump
A water pump can be added using the product options. Its not included unless selected. Check the existing pump for wear or leaks while the timing-chain work is underway. Replacing a faulty pump during the job can avoid repeating some of the dismantling later.
Which chain does the duplex conversion upgrade?
The YD25 timing drive has primary and secondary chains. On the relevant common rail engines the lower primary chain drives the fuel pump and vacuum pump. The upper camshaft chain is already double-row. This conversion upgrades the original single-row lower drive with a duplex chain and matching sprockets.
A double-row chain still needs the correct sprockets and alignment. The earlier and later conversion kits differ because the surrounding drive components also need to match the engine version.
Checking chain condition
A startup rattle or unusual chain noise needs investigation. Chain wear can also occur without an obvious rattle so a quiet engine doesnt prove the drive is in good condition. There isnt one mileage at which every YD25 chain needs replacing. Check the chains, guides, tensioners and sprockets against the service information for the exact engine.
In a Navara forum discussion about YD25 conversions an owner reported little guide wear and apparently sound sprockets despite a worn primary chain and suspect tensioners. Inspecting the guides alone can miss a problem elsewhere in the drive.
Cutting out or difficult starting can have several causes. Diagnose the fault before replacing parts. Disconnecting the camshaft sensor alone doesnt prove that the timing chain is worn.
Before fitting the conversion
Keep track of the fuel pump sprocket alignment shim during dismantling. YD25 specialist diagnostic notes explain that it can stick to the removed sprocket and be left out during reassembly. A missing shim can put the chain and sprockets out of line and cause rapid wear.
Follow the instructions for this conversion and the Nissan workshop procedure for your engine. Check sprocket alignment and the applicable balance shaft timing. Use the prescribed crankshaft bolt tightening procedure and complete the manual rotation and timing checks before starting the engine.
