VW T5 Transporter 2.5 Intake Manifold Gasket Set

VW T5 2.5 TDI intake manifold gasket and seal set for the five-cylinder PD diesel engine. The set includes the manifold gaskets for your chosen engine code, five PD injector seal sets, a camshaft gear diamond washer and a camshaft end cap (bung seal). Two options are available: one for BNZ, BPE and BPC engines and one for AXD, AXE, BAC, BLK and BLJ engines. Select your engine code before ordering.

Choose your gasket set

Option 1 — BNZ, BPE, BPC: Elring metal gaskets

Elring 584.990 is a four-piece intake manifold gasket pack containing:

• 1 × VW OE 070 129 717 E — cylinder 1; Victor Reinz cross reference 71-37538-00.
• 1 × VW OE 070 129 717 D — cylinders 2 and 3; Victor Reinz cross reference 71-37537-00.
• 2 × VW OE 070 129 717 C — cylinders 4 and 5; Victor Reinz cross reference 71-37536-00.

Option 2 — AXD, AXE, BAC, BLK, BLJ: Victor Reinz rubber gaskets

• 1 × 71-36076-00 — VW OE 070 129 717, cylinder 1.
• 1 × 71-36074-00 — VW OE 070 129 717 A, cylinders 2 and 3.
• 2 × 71-36079-00 — VW OE 070 129 717 B, cylinders 4 and 5.

Why four gaskets for five cylinders? Two gaskets each seal a pair of intake ports. Check your engine code and the shape of your old seals before ordering. Model year alone is not a reliable way to choose between the two types.

Also included with either option

• 5 × PD injector seal sets — one set for each injector. VW OE seal kit reference 038 198 051 B / 038 198 051 C. Each set contains the small sealing rings and fittings shown in the photos. The OE reference applies to the complete seal kit, rather than giving every ring a separate part number.
• 1 × camshaft gear diamond washer — VW OE 070109421A. This is the thin slotted washer shown in the photo.
• 1 × camshaft end cap / bung seal — VW OE 070103407. This is the round cap shown beside the diamond washer.

The camshaft washer and bung seal are useful when carrying out a camshaft job. The injector seals are for work involving removal of the PD injectors. Removing the intake manifold alone does not require you to disturb the camshaft or injectors.

When do you need new intake manifold gaskets?

Replace the manifold gaskets when the manifold is taken off for an EGR and intake clean, a manifold repair or replacement, or engine work where the manifold has to come away for access. Owners also encounter this job during cylinder head and camshaft repairs. Once the manifold is off, look inside the runners and at the ports for a build-up of oily soot. Clean the removed parts carefully and keep loose carbon and cleaning fluid out of the engine.

A useful detail before you start: a dirty EGR valve is easy to spot, but the restriction may continue into the manifold runners. Cleaning only the valve can leave much of the build-up in place. With the manifold off, inspect all five ports and clean the gasket faces before fitting the correct new seals. A T5 owner documented fitting temporary guide pins during manifold removal to keep the heavy assembly under control. This also makes it easier to seat the new gaskets without shifting them.

Fitment

• VW Transporter T5, Multivan T5 and California T5 with the 2.5 TDI five-cylinder PD engine, approximately 2003–2009.
• Some VW Touareg 2.5 R5 TDI engines use the corresponding gasket design; verify the engine code and original gasket before ordering.
• BNZ, BPE, BPC: choose Option 1 with Elring metal gaskets.
• AXD, AXE, BAC, BLK, BLJ: choose Option 2 with Victor Reinz rubber gaskets.

Check before purchase: Match the gasket option to the engine code. This set does not include every gasket or bolt needed for a full camshaft or cylinder head rebuild. The injector seal kit OE numbers are cross references for complete kits; individual O-rings and small fittings are not separately numbered in this listing.
